Looking for the perfect place to host your special event? Our rental hall and picnic grounds are some of the finest facilities in Louisville. Federal Hill, also known as My Old Kentucky Home and the inspiration of the song written by Stephen Foster, was the home of Judge John Rowan and built around 1800. A reasonable admission fee of $5 gives you a guided tour of the home that takes about 20 minutes or so and allows you to walk the grounds around the home. Other than hearing about the lives of the people in the various portraits located throughout the mansion, there really wasn’t a whole lot to see. One interesting aspect of the tour was that the number 13 is repeated throughout the house supposedly to honor the thirteen original colonies.

The girls got ready at the Colonel’s Cottage Inn in Bardstown, which was a cute little house and a great backdrop for getting ready. A few years ago, we photographed Whitney’s sister wedding at the Olmstead and we have been using her images as one of our sample albums because the wedding had been so special. Whitney & Casey’s wedding was just as beautiful and full of fun and emotion! They had a First Look and shared a special moment and then hung out with their bridal party for awhile before the ceremony. We followed them around the property and made some pretty awesome photos.

John and Edna Risen purchased the property in 1976 and sold it to me almost 15 years ago. There is so much history here and I am excited others can now enjoy the barn. Even though the outside of the barn looks new, all of the old detail is still there on the inside. I know that brides and grooms will make great memories here with their families.

Built between 1812 and 1818, the three-story house originally named, "Federal Hill," by its first owner Judge John Rowan became Kentucky's first historic shrine on July 4th, 1923. Located near Bardstown in Nelson County, the mansion and farm had been the home of the Rowan family for three generations, spanning a period of 120 years. In 1922 Madge Rowan Frost, the last Rowan family descendant sold her ancestral home and 235-acres to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
